new artwork by Matthew Shlian

 

Matthew Shlian is a self-proclaimed “paper engineer” – cutting and folding paper into complex organic structures based on mathematical equations with a focus on fractal geometry. While Shlian does create free-standing sculptures and even kinetic works, the artwork in his current series are all framed pieces that have a relief profile of no greater than 1.5” so that viewers can readily see the points of interconnectivity across each geometric plane.

Matthew Shlian lives and works in Ann Arbor, MI with degree in art from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI. His work is frequently applied to research in fields of communications, constructions & energy. Shlian’s artwork has been placed in collections around the world.
