Tumult

This current series reflects on upheaval, uncertainty, conflict, transformation, or renewal in contemporary life. I am drawn to the word's ambiguity and resist giving it a single definition. I work in series, using each body of work to explore ideas that arise from my personal, political, environmental, and social concerns. I hope the paintings create space for personal interpretation, inviting viewers to bring their own experiences, emotions, and associations to the work.

Over the past five years, my paintings have become more intuitive, embracing a freer, more abstract visual language while still retaining traces and fragments of the figure. The paintings emerge from the combination of instinct, emotion, and thought through a conversation between my heart, hand, and mind. Rather than illustrating a single narrative, I allow the process of painting to reveal tensions, rhythms, and unexpected connections as I fold, slice, combine, and reconfigure the figure into a multitude of relationships, always in motion.
