Teresa Booth Brown - Equations

“Equations” is a group of paintings created in collage and oil on small (12 x 6 inch) wood panels. They are visual equations solved by the Booth Brown using two or three variables. The panels, which all began as individual pieces, are completed as diptychs and triptychs based on the relationships she explores while working in the studio.  Says the artist, “I start the work with a layer of simple collage and then interpret and expand upon the base layer with oils; as I add paint, scrape, sand, and turn them upside-down and sideways, I am searching to see what they can do, what new territory I can push them into, and what visual interest they can offer when placed together.”
