Nancy Lovendahl

In these new works, Lovendahl challenges conventional notions of what is familiar and whether we truly understand all that we take for granted. For over 30 years, Nancy has looked at the same mountain, sometimes studying it, sometimes hiking it -- but mostly just barely letting it register in her peripheral vision. Seeing the tip of Garrett’s Peak (Snowmass, CO) in her mind’s eye, she creates a representation of it and then uses that as her own definitive version of what a mountain should look like.  Lovendahl makes dozens of variations to that version of a mountain showing us, the viewers, just how much her familiarity influences her as she moves through her art and through life.
